The SPAS-12 with fixed stock is not seen very often.
There are no real variants of the SPAS-12. The only thing that can be different is the clip size, color or stock.
Type: selective pump-action or gas-operatedSPAS-12 utilizes somewhat traditional for shotguns gas system with annular gas piston locating around the underbarrel magazine tube. It operates the bolt with vertically tilting locking lug that engages the barrel extension to lock. SPAS-12 can be switched between gas operated self-loading mode and manually operated pump mode by pressing and holding a button at the bottom of the forearm and pulling the forearm slightly forward for AUTOMATIC mode or backward for PUMP (or MANUAL) mode. Earlier models of the SPAS-12 had the lever type safety at the front of the triggerguard, but due to some deficiencies this was latter replaced by the push-button (cross-bolt) safety at the same place.
SPAS-12 could be fitted with stamped metallic buttstock that folds to the top of the receiver when not in use, and with a pistol grip made of plastic. Alternatively, solid plastic buttstocks with pistol grips are available. Barrel has cylinder bore with screw-on muzzle devices (cokes of flash hiders). Sights usually are of rifle type, with post front and open notch rear sight.

Experimental shotgun designed to be able to be fired both semi automatic and fully automatic. In automatic mode, cyclic rate was reported to be 240 Rounds per Minute. It was developed by H&K with Olin/Winchester and uses a non standard brass case ammunition. The cartridge is basically a 12 gauge but it is non standard and the CAWS cannot use standard 12 Gauge ammunition. As well, the 12 Gauge ammunition developed for the CAWS cannot be used in standrad shotguns.
The Heckler & Koch CAWS model was AAI's competitor in US military trials for a combat shotgun. The project was later cancelled and neither weapon entered active service. As well, there seems to be no plans to produce this weapon. The weapon is bulpup in desing with the magazine behind the trigger and the shotgun is constructed from polymars and composites. Even so, the weapon is quite hefty and is about nine and a half pounds. Shotgun has a 1x optical sight in handle.
The shotgun uses 10 round magazines.

The Jackhammer is a gas operated, fully automatic only shotgun. The feed system consists of the 10 shot, revolver type detachable cylinders, named "Ammo Cassette". The cassette may have 10 chambers for more or less conventional 12 gauge shotgun shells.

JAKARTA, INDONESIA: An Indonesian soldier holds his child at the airport before leaving Jakarta, 08 November 2006, to join the United Nation force in Lebanon. Around 125 Indonesian soldiers of the 851-strong force had left Jakarta as the first batch of Indonesian peacekeepers to join UN in Lebanon.
